Rachid Chafyaay is a high school Math teacher at Southwest High School in Bibb County School District. He uses Khan Academy to personalize learning by using Khan Academy's mastery system that gives instant feedback and recommendations on exactly which skills to practice next. Khan Academy Ambassadors are ambitious, energetic, and knowledgeable educators who are experts in using Khan Academy within a classroom context. They believe deeply in Khan Academy's mission and are ready to super-charge student practice on Khan Academy throughout their school and community during the 2020-2021 school year.
“We are really grateful for our Ambassadors,” says Stephanie Yamkovenko, Ambassador Program Leader at Khan Academy. ”Especially this year, as a lot of teachers, parents, and students are struggling to figure out how to make distance learning work, Khan Academy is in a position where we are creating the tools that can be a part of the solution. Teachers are going to need help to understand how to use Khan Academy in their classroom, and the best people to help them are superhero educators like our Ambassadors.” As a Khan Academy ambassador, I share how teachers can incorporate Khan Academy into their teaching. ABOUT KHAN ACADEMY Khan Academy is a nonprofit with a mission of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. Over 50 million teachers and students worldwide are registered to use Khan Academy’s standards- and AP-aligned exercises, videos, and articles for biology, chemistry, physics, US history, world history, grammar, K-12 math, computer science, and SAT prep. Khan Academy provides teachers with tools and data to help their students develop the skills, habits, and mindsets needed to succeed in school and beyond. And it’s all free, for everyone, forever.
TEACHING WITH KHAN ACADEMY Khan Academy empowers teachers to supercharge the practice experience for their students. Teachers can assign standards-aligned content and track student progress at the class and individual level. These real-time insights give teachers the data needed to help fill gaps in understanding and provide a personal, effective learning experience for each student. Students who use our resources see benefits: 20 hours of practice on Khan Academy’s Official SAT Practice is associated with an average 115-point increase from the PSAT/NMSQT to the SAT, nearly double the average gain compared to students who do not use Official SAT Practice. And, these score improvements persist across high school GPAs, genders, races, ethnicities, and parental education levels. In a 10,000-student study across the state of Idaho, students who completed more than 60% of their curated grade-level exercises on Khan Academy grew on average 1.8 times their expected growth in one year. ABOUT THE 20-21 KHAN ACADEMY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM Khan Academy Ambassadors are a select group of ~1000 teachers and administrators from across the United States who are top Khan Academy users and have the expertise required to share best practices with other teachers. Ambassadors are a volunteer cohort who were selected through a competitive application process and are highly valued members of the Khan Academy family. Khan Academy Ambassadors are eager to lead trainings and professional development sessions at your school and district so your staff can learn how to use Khan Academy to provide a personalized practice experience for all students. We hope that you as a school leader will grant the requesting Ambassador the opportunity to share their expertise with your faculty and/or district, and can encourage the Ambassador to present as often as is possible both internally and at conferences.
