About The SAT

ABOUT THE SAT

SAT has a big impact on college admissions. A good score can help a student with a lower GPA get into a better school, and a low score can hurt a high GPA earner's chances of getting into a good school. The exams are meant to be tricky, but good strategy, pacing, and practice at recognizing patterns are all that are required to do well.

OUR APPROACH

One size does not fit all for test prep. Students have strengths and weaknesses and should focus on certain strategies and material. That's why we don't offer a $3,000 - $5,000 comprehensive, cookie-cutter course that requires students to attend weeks of exhausting classes, pour over hundreds of pages of material, and work thousands of practice problems. We customize prep for each student based upon their goals, abilities, time, and cost.

INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS OR PACKAGES

You can schedule a single session or multiple sessions. We carefully assess each student before we begin and adjust course as we go. We first focus on strategy, then on recognizing patterns, and finally on coaching specific content. Many of the big test prep companies throw all students into a comprehensive, exhausting course. The SAT is not rocket science, it is 3-hour-long, predictable exams that test very basic elements of reading, writing, math, and reasoning.
Mr. Chafyaay provides intensive tutoring for students preparing for the mathematics section of the SAT exam. The math section includes two 25 minute parts of 20 questions and 18 questions, and a 20 minute part of 16 questions. There may also be an experimental math part to be completed in 25 minutes. The math questions consist of multiple choice questions and 10 grid in questions.

Mr. Chafyaay utilizes a three phase attack to help students properly prepare for the math section of the SAT Exam. During the course of tutoring sessions, we review numerous simulated SAT type problems covering the math topics for which students are responsible. I teach problem solving strategies and techniques which students can apply to specific types of questions on the exam. And we reinforce SAT syllabus math topics which arise during the review of simulated problems for which students are not sufficiently knowledgeable. These 3 components of our SAT prep program provide students with exam problem recognition the day of the exam and the necessary underlying math foundation and strategies to solve problems efficiently and correctly.

I offer a dynamic, intensive program for students preparing for the mathematics section of the SAT Exam. Our concentration and expertise is the math section of the exam. All of my efforts are directed at the one goal of helping students achieve their highest possible score on the math section of the SAT Exam.

SHORT-TERM TEST PREPARATION:

For those of you who do have at least 3 weeks remaining before your test date, a full preparation is possible if you work hard enough. Students should meet with me at least twice a week (3x a week if needed), for approximately 10-15 lessons of 1.5 hours each. This type of short-term preparation requires that the student be able to devote a substantial amount of time and effort to the task at hand. Homework will be assigned, and as the test date approaches, several practice tests will be administered in order to gauge the student's progress. Students will be expected to complete at least 2 hours of homework for every 1 hour of tutoring time.

Fine Tuning: Distinguished math students who usually score 92 or above in their math assessments and score in the 90th percentile in the official or practice test.

Targeted: Proficient students who usually score 80-91 in their math assessments and score in the 75th  percentile in the official or practice test.

LONG-TERM TEST PREPARATION:

Some students prefer to make sure they are prepared well before it comes time to take the actual exam. For example, high PSAT scores can earn scholarships, not to mention build confidence for the real SAT. By starting early, students will get a head start on the rest of their classmates, and will be able to prepare gradually, making sure that they are ready for all aspects of the test.

Walk Along: Beginning students who usually score below 50 in their math assessments and score below 25th percentile in the official or practice test.

Comprehensive: Developing students who usually score 65-79 in their math assessments and score in the 50th  percentile in the official or practice test.
